2 months of bliss

We're two months old!!
Holy Moly I cant believe my baby is 2 months old, that is crazy!!

Month: 2
Weeks: 9
Weight: I think about 12lbs based on weighing him at home, he has his 2 month apt tomm. and we will get the official stats
Length: About 23 inches!!!
What I'm wearing: I have to finally retire our xs diapers he just pees too much and leaks out of them every time so we have graduated to the one size diapers which are mostly on the smallest setting and are still a little bulky but he will grow in to them soon enough.  We are mostly in 0-3m clothes although most of his clothes are getting too small length wise he's long and skinny so we might have to graduate to 3-6m clothes soon even though they may be too wide they will at least be long enough.

Milestones: smiles and coos at us ALL the time, getting better at pushing up on his forearms during tummy time, now he actually enjoys tummy time for a short period of time as opposed to before when he would scream as soon as you put him prone.  Holds his head up on his own except for when he's tired or mad, brings his hands to midline, he's becoming much more interested in his toys which I love...I cant wait for him to play more and be able to entertain himself a little bit

He can even sit in his bebe pod for short periods of time!

Obligatory Adorable Picture:

laughing at his momma

Eating: during the say he pretty much eats every 2 hours or like today every hour on the hour.  Our feeding times have decreased though from taking about 45 minutes total to sometimes only 15-30 minutes on one side

Sleeping: well technically sleeping through the night is defined as a 5 hour stretch so technically he sleeps through the night SOME nights.  He actually had a 6 hour stretch the other night...but for the most part he wakes up every 3-4 hours.  He goes to bed around 930-10 generally wakes to eat around 130 or 2, 530 or 6 and then will usually go to sleep until around 8 or so and be up for the day. Im reading the no-cry sleep solution to see if we cant get some longer stretches and a better sleep routine

Visits/Outings: We went on our first overnight trip to MiMi and PopPops house two weeks ago and this week my friend from high school came to hang out with us for the day with her little girl who is 22 days older than L.  We also go to our weekly playgroup on monday with several girls from work who all had babies within 2 weeks of each other...it really helps me keep my sanity and be less neurotic!! Aside from playgroup I try to keep the errand running to a minimum because its so freaking hot outside!!

Favorite Activities: Loves to walk around the house with mommy be it me holding him, in the sling or the moby it doesn't matter walking through the house is his favorite thing to do so most days I spend a long time walking up and down our main hallway.  He also LOVES to look at himself in the mirror, if he is fussy that can calm him down many times.  He loves his friend Fan and also his play gym with the little bugs, they must be silly because he often lays on the floor cracking up at his play gym bugs. We go on walks in the late evening around 730 to see the turtles and alligators by our house which he also enjoys, I cant wait till it cools off some so we can go on longer walks!!

Mommy Feels: So blessed and happy, I just love this little guy more than words.  Even when its 3 am and he wont sleep he look sat me and starts smiling his big grin I cant help but laugh and not be upset with him.  He is only 9 weeks and already has me wrapped around his chubby baby finger, I hate that I have to go back to work in 2 weeks I have been praying hard that God bring us the perfect sitter for us to watch him in the evenings between when I go to work and daddy comes home.  The only thing that makes me ok about going back to work and leaving him is that he will be sleeping most of the time I'm gone.  I choose to be in denial about the fact that I have to back to work in 2 weeks though.  I never knew I could love something so much and I love watching him grow and get stronger each day!!

Life these days

Apparently L is NOT a fan of the ol blog because every time I want to sit down to write a post he demands my full attention...well I decided to put my foot down, as I type I am feeding him and typing with one hand...

He turned 8 weeks on tuesday, I cant believe I almost have a two month old!!

Breastfeeding has been going great, Im so glad I stuck with it and worked through the problems because things are going great now, we no longer have meltdowns at every feeding, I no longer am in excruciating pain most of the time and L is certainly gaining weight he has the funniest chunky chin and some serious thigh muscles!! We weighed him at my parents last weekend and he was about 11.5 lbs!!  The only thing is   I wish it didn't take him almost an hour to eat, its so annoying and makes feeding him in public difficult because it takes so long so usually if we are going out for a while I will bring some pumped milk to give him and that has worked out good so far.

He is slowly getting on more of a schedule he has the bedtime routine down but I am going to try and move his bedtime up to about 8pm instead of 10pm and try to start doing this thing called Dream Feeding, its not for all babies and while I very much believe in feeding on demand as opposed to forcing a schedule on my baby I am willing to try this.  It may not work, for some babies it really just doesnt work but,  He WILL NOT sleep more than 3.5 hours at night and it makes me so tired!! One night he slept 5 hours but thats because we were so busy all day and he literally would not take a nap.  This may be selfish of me to try but at this point I am desperate for sleeping longer than 3 hours. He has also started taking more regular naps...not always but he will usually always sleep for a stretch of time from around 11 or 12 until about 2 or 3.  Aside from that its just a lot of cat naps.

I go back to work in 3 weeks and we still haven't found a person to watch him, mainly because I have been in denial and am so worried about leaving him in my home with a stranger.  I have given it to God and have just been praying for a wonderful person to come and care for him those few hours at night while me and hubs are at work.  The only thing making me feel ok about leaving him when I go to work is that he will be asleep most of the time so I wont be missing out on much. I am also looking into a video surveillance system that I can monitor from my cell phone so I can keep an eye on whats going on while were away.

As far as the Shrinxx Hips that I bought to try out...it did work but I think would have worked better had I wore it more consistently.  It did bring my hips from about 36.5 when I started to about 36 or so, I think  once I start running more the little extra squish will go away.

We went on our first out of town trip with the little guy this past weekend and it really was a huge success.  He wasnt a fan of being in the car seat so much but over all was a very happy baby the entire trip.  He got to meet a lot of people for the first time and I got to see family that I hadnt seen in many many years, so in all it was a fantastic weekend for all!!

I love this picture I just think he looks so cute!!

With my brother...he really loved his Uncle J

Cloth Diapers

I made the decision back before I was even pregnant with L to use cloth diapers.  I read a blog post someone had that used them and I was instantly intrigued.  Thus, I started to do some research...what I found drew me in even more!!

The reasons why:
1. They are so cute!!
2. they are so much softer than disposables
3. the cost savings is HUGE...plus if you take good care of them you can use them for subsequent children and depending on what kind you use, you can use them from infant through potty training
4. Better for the environment, you aren't cluttering up the landfills with your child's poopy diapers that will sit there for hundreds of years
5. no chemicals on my sweet babys bum
6. did I mention how cute they are!!

I have seriously become addicted and its a good thing I have a boy and not a girl because they have so many more cute diapers for little girls.

We started using our cloth diapers at about 3 weeks of age.  My stash consisted of Fuzzibuns XS and Happy Heiny minis.  These were all too big around the legs at first thats why we waited 3 weeks.  I have since bought a few diapers that I wish I had before because they are much smaller and would have fit from day one.  Those said diapers are the lil joeys and grovia all-in-one newborn.

Really the transition from disposables to cloth was not hard at all the only difference is you have to do a little more laundry but for us thats no big deal. They strap on just the same as a disposable.  I didn't even have a hard time getting hubby on board he was actually excited when we could start using our cloth diapers...he kept asking me when we could start using the "cool" diapers. Its so funny now too because he has nicknames for landon depending on what color diaper he is wearing ex. red= L is trying to be cupid green= Lis a little shamrock etc. its pretty cute.

You have to use special detergent that has no softeners, enzymes etc the one we use is called Rockin Green and that is working well for us so far. At first I had read you can use the original Tide so I bought some and used it at first but L broke out into a rash and I switched soaps and the rash went away so I think he just is very sensitive.  As long as they are Exclusively Breast Fed you don't have to rinse the poo off you just throw the whole deal into the wash.  I do a cold quick was to get the dirties off then I do a hot wash with a cold rinse and an extra rinse to make sure all the soap is out.

I also use cloth wipes, it just made sense.  When you change a diaper you wipe and roll the wipe into the diaper and stick it into the bag, then throw the whole thing into the wash. I don't use any special solution for the wipes, just plain old water and that works for us.

What our stash consists of:
15 Fuzzibuns XS
2 Happy Heiny minis
2 Lil joeys
2 Rumparooz one size <<-- tend to be pretty bulky but work good at night
1 grovia AIO newborn

With this many diapers at first we had to do wash everyday but now we are able to go about 2 days
I also have a bunch of the one size diapers which he will be able to use until he is potty trained but they are a little bulky so we stick with our newborn diapers for now.

It is quite an investment up front but if you start well in advance its not as big of a shock all at once.  Since I knew I knew I wanted to cloth diaper i always kept my eyes out for sales and deals.  Sometimes Fuzzibuns will be on Zulily thats where I got most of our way back before L was even born.  Also Kellys Closet always has good deals and often when you spend a certain dollar amount you can get a free one size diaper, thats how I got most of mine.

My lil bug has been soooo fussy and spit-uppy today, not sure what his deal is but I FINALLY got him down for a nap thanks to the white noise I downloaded to my ipod!!!

Ten on Tuesday

1. What do you traditionally do for 4th of July?
nothing...sadly we don't have any july 4th traditions.  We were going to watch fireworks but  L is a little too young this year and it was just too hot outside so we watched them on tv.  In the future though I see a family BBQ of sorts followed by watching fireworks as a july 4th tradition.  As a youngin our church would go downtown to where the festivities were and pass out water to all the spectators, it was always lots of fun.
2. Did you follow your tradition this year? How did you celebrate yesterday?
yesterday we hung out at home in our jammies all day. L was very sleepy, going through a growth spurt i guess, so we just hung out at home.  In the evening we ran to the mall so I could return something then we ate an early dinner at La Madeline and then had some Ben and Jerrys Ice Cream, followed by watching fireworks on tv.
3. What’s the best fireworks show you’ve ever seen?
I have never seen anything very spectacular in real life
4. Have you ever been injured by a firecracker?
yep, as a wee child our family was shooting off our own fireworks and one bounced off the house and hit my leg.   Nothing serious but I will never forget it.
5. Burger, Brat, or Hot Dog?
Burger for sure!!
6. Do you sport red, white and blue on our Independence Day?
Absolutely see photo for proof :)
7. If you had to be from any country other than the USA, what country would it be?
a remote tribe in Africa, they have such a simple life and while there are many health problems and other dangers that simplicity is all they know and i like that
8. Charcoal or gas?
Charcoal for taste, gas for convenience.
9. What’s your favorite thing about this fair country of ours?
Freedom to be open about my beliefs
10. God Bless the USA, My Country Tis of Thee, or the Star Spangled Banner?
Star Spangled banner

I'm Katie a 27 year old mommy and wife. Welcome to my blog where I will chronicle the happenings of my life as I find the balance between being both SAHM by day and CVICU nurse by night.

I love Jesus and strive to be more like Christ every day. Running, reading, and cooking are some of my favorite past-times. I love photography but I am no pro, but it helps I have such a cute subject to practice on!!
